Aquamarine by Revlon c1946

Aquamarine by Revlon: launched in 1946.

Fragrance Composition:

So what did it smell like? It is classified as a very clean, fresh, but bitter aromatic chypre fragrance for women.
  • Top notes: bergamot, aldehydes, citrus, freesia,  lily,
  • Middle notes: rose, jasmine, galbanum, herbs, honey ylang ylang, cloves
  • Base notes: vetiver, amber, vanilla, tobacco, sandalwood, oakmoss, patchouli, tonka

The perfume came out first, but ancillaries like soap, eau de toilette mists, milk bath, bath powder, lotion deodorant and face and body lotions soon followed. In the 1960s, Aquamarine proved to be extremely popular with the younger set and soaps were all the rage as well as the shampoo!

Fate of the Fragrance:

Today, the soap is no longer available, but the shampoo and lotions still can be found online at discounters. Though the consensus mentions that the "new" Aquamarine pales in comparison to the original higher fragranced products, they are still worth it.

Today the shampoo and conditioners are described as  "made with the sea's own proteins and minerals and provides the natural benefits of a refreshing dip in the ocean". "Cleanse your hair with fresh-as-the-sea aquamarine extra body shampoo. Enriched with essential mineral ingredients, gentle aquamarine formula with natural marine protein cleans through and through.

The New Yorker, 1951:
"Revlon's concentrated body rub, Aquamarine Mist, which actually is amber-colored, is a melange of twelve scents."
